About Us
The Wilderness Treatment Center is a treatment program for drug and alcohol abusing adolescents and young adults. Located on a 4,000 acre working cattle ranch in the Rocky Mountains of Northwest Montana, the
Wilderness Treatment Center's primary goal is to introduce the participants to a way of life free from chemical dependency. Alcohol and or drug dependence has been defined as a primarily progressive and fatal disease. Like any other disease, chemical dependency requires professional treatment. Without treatment, it will get worse never better. Without professional help, improvements are slight and always temporary. Rugged and challenging activities such as backpacking, cross country skiing, rappelling, ranch work, and a wilderness expedition, offer an adventuresome and disciplined setting into which drug and alcohol abuse therapy are introduced. The drug and alcohol-free environment of our mountain ranch provides a setting devoid of most of the complications of society. The social environment of a limited group living and learning together, brings out the group cooperation needed in order to succeed. The challenges encountered on the wilderness expeditions and social living skills learned in daily activities on the ranch, as well as in the the wilderness, leads to a greater self acceptance and self esteem. Living with a chemical dependent adolescent or young adult, is not easy. His chemical use and behavior affects the whole family. Often, parents have lost all sense of trust and hope. When distrust and anger have become part of daily living, it is impossible to have a normal life. We feel we have the answer at the Wilderness Treatment Center. As soon as a family schedules their son's admission, the family's healing process begins.
Keeping You Informed
Families are informed of treatment planning and progress on a weekly basis. Our 4 &1/2 day family program allows for the reconstruction of family wholeness and health. The primary counselor's and continuing care counselor work closely with family members throughout the course of treatment to ensure the best possible outcome. Individuals are medically supervised from their first day in treatment. Our experienced and licensed addiction counselors utilize traditional treatment philosophies which provides for an intensive staff-to-patient ratio. Days are filled with informational videos, lectures, individual and group therapy and counseling, not only at the ranch, but also in the wilderness.
Outdoor activities are guided by experienced specialists and licensed counselors. Whether it is ROPES course, rappelling, work therapy, or the wilderness expedition, individuals will be constantly exposed to sober role models and trained drug and alcohol professionals. All individuals are supervised on a 24-hour a day basis. The Wilderness Treatment Center is a 60 day program open to males aged 14-24.
Traditional treatment philosophies following the successful 12-step patterns in addition to a 16-21 day, outward bound-type program, develops within the individual:
• the decision to remain drug and alcohol free.
• a greater self esteem and self confidence
• adoption of responsible attitudes and actions
• the ability to trust and be trusted
• improved health and physical fitness
Both family references and outcome studies are available upon request. From it's beginning, the Wilderness Treatment Center has proven itself as a unique, safe and successful treatment program, approved and accepted by most major medical policies. All medical costs and transportation costs to Kalispell, Montana and home again are the responsibility of the participant and his family. Chemical dependency is a devastating and destructive disease and those who suffer from it and their families are entitled to the same loving care and treatment as those suffering from any other disease.
