Fulshear Ranch Academy Transition Program Information:
At Fulshear, we begin with the end in mind. That end, regardless of the form it takes for each unique graduate, is one of healthy independence and self-sufficiency fueled by personal passion. For one Fulshear graduate this
might mean working at a music store to pay for her apartment while studying at night for her music-theory degree. Another graduate might work at a stable and intern with a dressage instructor, teaching young people advanced equestrian skills. Regardless of the details, our vision for every graduate is that she steps into a life of responsible independence pursuing her life’s passion through some combination of school, work, and/or internship.
The Path: Independence and Adulthood
In preparation for independence and adulthood, we provide our young women with intensive treatment followed by an experiential program of self discovery, skill building, and life planning. This culminates in a real plan for a real life for every Fulshear graduate—a life that she is ready to step right into.
Fulshear students begin their program on The Fulshear Horse Ranch where they complete Phase One and Phase Two. Phase One focuses on stabilization and healing through a powerful combination of group, individual, family, and equine therapy delivered by our world-class clinical team. When our students are ready to move to the Phase Two house, they begin identifying life passions, formulating a personal vision and strategy for their future, and learning the hard skills necessary for independent living. In this phase, students also put together a practical work/study plan for their transition to The Fulshear Apartments.
When ready in terms of emotional health, personal vision, and hard skills, our students move into The Fulshear Apartments in Sugar Land, Texas, about twenty miles from the ranch. In this vibrant and well-appointed Houston suburb, our young women experience the same independence as college students or working adults, but with the direct support of therapists, mentors, and supportive peers who know them well.
While navigating the challenges and joys of independence during Phase Three, students construct a clear strategy for their next step—independent living in the real world.
Our Mission & Vision
Our mission at Fulshear Ranch Academy is to provide an enriched therapeutic learning environment which will support each young woman in the development of her mind, body, and spirit. Through a combination of ranch life, educational, employment, counseling, and adventure services we invite our students to create a life they will be passionate about living. We envision a generation of young women who love and believe in themselves and who possess the character, self-discipline, and courage to be productive members of their communities.
How we do it…
In addition to utilizing the most clinically sophisticated treatment approaches available for young women, Fulshear’s multi-disciplinary team employs an experiential, graduated curriculum of life-skills, academics, vocational training, internships, and work. This is complemented by a robust family program to help parents and siblings understand and support this critical transition. Within the basic structure of the program, every Fulshear student is eventually empowered to create her own personalized program based on an emerging sense of self, personal interests, and future goals.
